ANI Generic Study (1989)

  • Generic end-states used.
  • Included cost information from the accident at Three Mile Island Unit 2, both in severity and cost.
  • Estimated both PWR and BWR cleanup costs for generic 800 MWe plants.

Diablo Canyon, Palo Verde and Ginna Studies (1990-1991)

  • Customized the Generic Study to Diablo Canyon.
  • Dose rates determined using plant-specific configuration and dimensions.
  • Overhead quantified using plant-specific costs.
  • Costs scaled to other end-states using industry guidelines.

Waterford Study (1991-1992)

  • End-states developed corresponding to actual plant-specific PRA accident sequences.
  • Benchmarking of costs to TMI-2 performed in a more sophisticated manner regarding fission product inventory and release.
  • Productivity factor incorporated to reflect crew replacements due to burnout.
  • Support activities scaled to workscope prior to labor adjustment for dose.
  • Overhead itemized as staffing and G&A costs.
  • Scaling to other end-states performed on a technical basis by labor category instead of using global scaling factors from AIF/NESP-036.
  • Costs presented in relation to PRA probabilities of occurrence.
  • Damaged property analysis.

ANI Small BWR Study (1992)

  • Included insurance recovery.
  • Analyzed undamaged property.
  • Determined decommissioning shortfall.

ANI Small BWR Study (1992)

  • Included insurance recovery.
  • Analyzed undamaged property.
  • Determined decommissioning shortfall.

SACAS (1993)

  • Incorporated lessons learned and improved information from previous studies.
  • Consolidated the numerous databases and calculations into one program.
  • Benchmarked successfully against TMI-2 accident costs.
  • Updated to include new coverage limits, functional total loss, NML/ANI split, etc.
  • Provides convenient method for data input and analysis.

NML Cash Flow Following
A Severe Reactor Accident (1995)

  • Included evaluation of five nuclear power plants representing a cross-section of the industry.
  • Determined the cashflow resulting from a TMI
  • Type accident utilizing the insurance coverages selected in effect at each utility.

NML Property Damage and Restart Analysis (1996)

  • Evaluated the liklihood of restart following a range of accidents
  • Review the events that could lead to a total loss of the plant
  • Analyzed the criteria for restart following a severe accident
